Outdoor ed students explore some of the smallest creatures on campus

Early childhood and lower elementary students are learning about zooplankton and phytoplankton in March. These tiny creatures can be found in the Cedar River and in the wetlands on campus, and they play an important role in the aquatic food web. Scientists estimate that phytoplankton provide between 50-80% of all the oxygen on Earth, and plankton are a wonderful part of many aquatic ecosystems. Now is a great time to begin learning about these tiny floating friends!
