Annual Fund

Cedar River Montessori School is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. An Annual Fund is a common practice in not-for-profit, private school budgeting and operations which serves two main purposes: First, it is a clear and measurable way to determine the level of community support when the school seeks funding options such as program grants and loans for capital development.  Second, it helps fill the gap between tuition and the cost of providing each student’s education.  Here are some common questions and answers about annual funds.

What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund supports the school's current fiscal year's operating budget with funds for faculty salaries, financial assistance, building maintenance, library books, lab and classroom materials, and utilities. When you give to the Annual Fund, you can be sure your gift is helping the students right now!

Doesn't tuition cover these expenses?
Yes, but only partially. Tuition covers about 94% of the total cost of a CRMS education.

How is the remaining 6% covered?
To run the school every year, we depend on annual gifts from trustees, staff, alumni, current parents and parents of alumni, and other friends of the school.

If I can only give a small gift, does it really make an difference for CRMS?
Yes! Your gift, combined with those from other alumni, family, and friends, provides substantial support for the ongoing operations of our school. Regardless of the level of the gift, it is an expression of your support. Every gift counts and every gift is appreciated.

Why does my participation matter?
Participation matters because many foundations only fund schools that can demonstrate wide support from their own alumni, parents, and administration. In addition, costs for running a school and providing a strong program increase every year.

What are leadership gifts?
Giving to the Annual Fund each year is extremely important to the ongoing success of the school’s programs and demonstrates a donor’s commitment. We seek leadership gifts of $500 or more. However, we do not do high recognition of these gifts.  All donors to the annual fund are all listed alphabetically.

How are Annual Fund dollars raised?
The school will send out information, a request, and an envelope each October.  You can choose to give once, over time, or pledge to give later in the school year.

What period does the Annual Fund cover?
The Annual Fund starts on September 1st of each year and closes on the following August 31st.

How can I make a gift?
