Our Animal Friends

CRMS has a large number of animal friends that add to the home-like atmosphere and support our efforts to teach care of our firends and environment. Each class has an animal friend and we have two cats that roam the school. In addition to our indoor animals, CRMS has four goats, two alpacas, and a llama.

  • Callahan and Sasha, our resident cats, have free roam of the school and will often join the students for story time.
  • La Paz and Lima the alpacas and Sully the llama are in the pasture and provide much of the wool we use in our crafts in the elementary classrooms.
  • Woody the goat has been with us for about 20 years and is kept company by Romeo, Chrissy, and Brownie.
  • Tortuga the tortoise has been with the school for 30 years and lives in the lower elmentary classrooom.
  • Tu-tze the rabbit lives in the upper elementary classroom.
  • Mo'o the bearded dragon lives in one of our primary classrooms. Other primary classrooms have fish and walking sticks.
Given our location on 12 acres of wetlands and proximity to the Cedar River, we also have numerous deer, racoons, eagles, and other visitors to our campus.

Our animal friends often prompt questions about allergies. We have several students and staff with mild animal and seasonal allergies who do not have problems in our environment. However, this campus is probably not the right choice for a student with severe environmental or animal allergies.
