Our Animals
CRMS has many animal friends that add to the home-like atmosphere and support learning to care for our friends and environment. Each class has an animal friend and two cats roam the school. In addition to our indoor animals, CRMS has two sheep, two goats, two alpacas, and a llama. Given our location on 12 acres of wetlands and proximity to the Cedar River, we also have numerous deer, rabbits, raccoons, eagles, and other visitors to our campus.
- Callahan and Sasha, our resident cats, roam the school freely and will often join the students for story time.
- La Paz and Lima, the alpacas, and Sully, the llama, are in the pasture and provide much of the fiber we use in our crafts in the elementary classrooms.
- Romeo, and Chrissy, the goats, have been with the school for many years and love the leaves the children feed them from the playground.
- Prize and Ohmy are two sheep that were born here at the school to two ewes we acquired from a rescue farm. The ewes have returned to the farm but the two lambs, now ewes themselves, are here to stay.
- Our Early Childhood classrooms have resident fish and walking sticks.
- Tortuga, the tortoise, has been with the school for 30 years and lives in one of our lower elementary classroom. Our other lower elementary classroom has a hamster in residence.
- Tú-dz, the rabbit, lives in the upper elementary classroom.
- The middle school has a tarantula.

Allergies
Our animal friends often prompt questions about allergies. We have several students and staff with mild animal and seasonal allergies who do not have problems in our environment. However, this campus is probably not the right choice for a student with severe environmental or animal allergies.
